A little bit about your breed of dog

Bedlington Terrier

The most distinctive feature of this gutsy terrier is his curly, woolly coat. He is sometimes described as having the head of a lamb and the heart of a lion. This is a dog that was bred to quickly kill not only rats, but also badgers, otters and foxes.

Bernese Mountain

This big sweet dog can sometimes be shy. He forms a strong bond of love with his family, but often attaches himself to one person. He is eager to please and easy to train, and gets along well with other animals. He likes children, and especially enjoys pulling them in carts.

Bichon Frise

This cheerful little dog looks like a gentle puffball, but is healthy and sturdy enough for play and exercise. Bichons get along with just about everyone, including strangers and other animals. They are active, alert, and curious. They are also highly trainable with gentle handling

Bloodhound

The Bloodhound is a large dog and strong. His owner must be prepared to handle him with both respect and discipline. He is also one of the kindest and gentlest of all dogs. Bloodhounds are intelligent and want to please.

Border Collie

The supreme sheep herding dog, the Border Collie lives to work. This is the dog for the athletic person who is ready to engage a dog in directed activities. His intense concentration, deep desire to please, as well as speed and intelligence give the breed the edge in just about any job he undertakes.

Border Terrier

This alert and plucky dog was developed especially to catch the foxes that caused so much damage to farmers' chickens and livestock. He was bred to have longer legs than most terriers. This dog is also adaptable to city life, provided he gets plenty of exercise. He's most interested in being with his owner, and is a good-natured and loving companion.

Borzoi

Borzois were imported to the UK in the 1890s, and have been appreciated here ever since for their gentle, dignified manner and their impressive abilities as swift lure coursers. Lure coursing is a sport in which a hound chases after a lure of three plastic bags speeding over a course, or track. Borzois enjoy long runs and cold weather, but are quiet in the house.

Bouvier Des Flandres

Bouviers are big and big-hearted. They are strong and can think for themselves. The Bouvier is protective. He can sometimes be suspicious of other dogs. While he's not overly active in the house, he does need plenty of exercise. Country or suburban living suits him well.

Boxer

The Boxer is a playful and fun-loving dog, who is also capable of communicating his feelings with his face. His twinkling black eyes show his intelligence and emotions. His face wrinkles up into expressions of curiosity, excitement, happiness, surprise, or sadness. Boxers particularly love children. They are playful and patient, but are also strong and defensive, so early obedience training is important.

Briard

The Briard has a strong character, and is happiest leading a busy, active life. This big dog thinks for himself, so training may take patience. Like most sheepdogs, Briards are wary of strangers, canine or human.

Brittany Spaniel

The Brittany is a happy, alert, and active dog. He loves to work and is eager to please. He thrives on challenges and exercise, work and friendship, and makes an ideal dog for someone who can give him a serious daily workout.

Bulldog

He was originally a fighting dog, but now he's about as easy going as a dog can be. The Bulldog is intelligent and trainable, but because of his face and body type, light exercise is enough to keep him healthy, and an air-conditioned house is his favorite place in the summer.

Bullmastiff

The Bullmastiff is a level headed, steady dog. He gets along well with other family pets and loves children. He is brave and protective. He saves his deep bark for really important matters. He is large and strong, so early obedience training is a must. As a puppy, his chewing needs are big too.

Bull Terrier

The Bull Terrier is valued as a loyal and loving friend. Because they are so muscular, Bull Terriers need plenty of exercise to stay fit, and love nothing more than playing catch with a bouncy rubber ball. They make the most delightful of companions in the city or country.
